Saudi Energy Minister Meets with Azerbaijani Counterpart to Discuss Climate Action
In a significant step towards enhanced bilateral cooperation on climate action, His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Saudi Minister of Energy, convened a meeting with His Excellency Mukhtar Babayev, the Azerbaijani Minister of Environment and Natural Resources and the President of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Climate Agreements (COP29), in Jeddah.
The upcoming COP29 Conference, scheduled for November this year, will take place in Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, both ministers explored various avenues for collaboration and work between the two countries in the realm of climate action. They also discussed joint efforts to fulfill the objectives and principles of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement.
Furthermore, the ministers reviewed the Kingdom’s initiatives and efforts in addressing the impacts of climate change. This includes leveraging renewable energy sources, managing and reducing emissions, and employing removal methods. Initiatives such as the "Saudi Green" and "Middle East Green" were highlighted along with the application of a circular carbon economy approach and its technologies, among other national and regional programs and initiatives.
