Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030: Unveiling a Zero-Carbon Future and Advanced Air Mobility Initiatives
Saudi Arabia unveils zero-carbon roadmap and calls for global cooperation at GCC session.
Saudi Arabia is charting a zero-carbon future under Vision 2030, as highlighted at the ICAO Forum in Montreal. GACA President Abdulaziz Al-Duailej unveiled a roadmap for advanced air mobility, featuring initiatives like a capabilities center by 2028 and air taxi services. This reinforces Saudi's commitment to advanced tech, evidenced by KAUST students' ICAO award for non-terrestrial networks research, and a goal of zero carbon emissions by 2060.
Transitioning to environmental efforts, Saudi Arabia has called for international cooperation on environmental challenges at the GCC session in Doha. Deputy Minister Eng. Mansour Al-Mushaiti emphasized the Middle East Green Initiative Charter and focused on land rehabilitation and drought resilience. Saudi Arabia's hosting of COP16 in December aims to further international combat against land degradation and drought.
In the realm of regional politics, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman congratulated Algeria’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on his re-election. With nearly 95 percent of the vote, according to Algeria's electoral authority ANIE, Tebboune secured a significant victory with 5.3 million votes.
Shifting focus to Gaza, Egypt condemned an Israeli airstrike on Al-Mawasi, a humanitarian zone, citing numerous civilian casualties and international law violations. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged stronger support for Palestinian self-determination, while UN envoy Tor Wennesland stressed the need to uphold international humanitarian law.
Meanwhile, violence escalates in the West Bank, where a Palestinian truck driver killed Israeli soldier Staff Sergeant Geri Gideon Hanghal near Givat Assaf. The assailant was neutralized at the scene, highlighting the ongoing conflict that has claimed 662 Palestinian and 24 Israeli lives since October 2023.
Finally, tensions are also high on the Lebanese border, where Israeli strikes have increased following a drone attack killing a Hezbollah member. Extensive airstrikes and artillery shelling by Israel have caused significant damage, coinciding with EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell Fontelles's visit to Beirut, where these border tensions are a key topic.
