Saudi Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority takes leadership role in global anti-corruption network at UN ceremony.
Saudi Arabia, through its Saudi Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha), has officially assumed the presidency of the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE Network).
The handover ceremony was held at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, Austria.
Saudi Arabia was elected unanimously to chair the network for the 2025–2027 term during a high-level meeting in Beijing, China.
The GlobE Network serves as the largest international platform for coordinating joint efforts among law enforcement agencies to investigate and combat cross-border corruption.
The election reflects member states’ acknowledgment of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to fighting corruption on an international scale.
The network comprises over 219 law enforcement agencies from more than 120 countries, along with various international organizations.
This extensive representation highlights the significant global collaboration required to address corruption effectively.
During the ceremony, the leadership transition took place from the Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecutor's Office against Corruption and Organized Crime of Spain to Dr. Nasser Aba Al-Khail, the Deputy of the Saudi Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority for International Cooperation.
The event was attended by representatives from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), along with numerous senior international officials and delegates from the network's member states.
Dr. Nasser Aba Al-Khail underscored the Kingdom's intentions to enhance cooperation among member states in accordance with the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
He stated that Saudi Arabia aims to develop new strategies for asset recovery and establish a secure communication platform to facilitate expedited and efficient information exchange among members.
These initiatives aim to strengthen international collaboration and empower governments in tackling challenges related to corruption, improving asset recovery processes, and tracing illicit funds across borders.
This transition of leadership signifies Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to bolstering international efforts to combat corruption.
The country continues to play a significant role in formulating policies and tools necessary to address corruption while fostering transparency and accountability worldwide.
Saudi Arabia's presidency of the GlobE Network contributes to its positioning as an active participant in efforts to promote fair, just, and sustainable governance systems across the globe.
