Qatar Defends Hamas Office, Reassesses Mediation Role Amid Criticism
Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majed Al-Ansari, stated on Tuesday that there was no valid reason for terminating the presence of Hamas' office in Doha while mediation efforts in the Gaza conflict were ongoing.
Al-Ansari held a press conference and expressed Qatar's dedication to continuing its mediation role, but noted that the country was reconsidering its approach due to frustration with attacks on its efforts.
Last week, Qatar announced that it was reconsidering its role as a mediator in ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, expressing concerns that its efforts were being sabotaged for political gain.
Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, stated that there had been a misuse of the mediation process for narrow political interests, which necessitated a thorough evaluation of Qatar's role.
