Heritage Commission Holds Workshop on Archaeological Surveying and Excavation: Collaborating with Universities and Organizations to Unveil Saudi Arabia's History

The Heritage Commission held a workshop in Riyadh on archaeological surveying and excavation to discuss ongoing and future projects with partners from universities, organizations, and government agencies.
The event included a presentation of the annual report on exploration projects and featured discussions on new survey and excavation plans.

Abdullah Al-Zahrani, the director general of the antiquities sector at the commission, expressed the goal of gaining knowledge about the latest results and discoveries from archaeological work in Saudi Arabia.

The Heritage Commission is currently collaborating with various Saudi universities and other archaeology-focused organizations and commissions.

The Heritage Commission of Saudi Arabia expresses gratitude to its partners for their contributions to archaeological sites and collaboration on sharing historical knowledge.

The commission's 2030 Archaeological Survey and Excavation Projects Plan was developed in partnership with national and international universities and various entities, including the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives, the Royal Commission for AlUla, and the Jeddah Historic District Program.

The presentation highlighted 72 scientific initiatives that marked the completion of the commission's surveying and archaeological excavation work.

In 2023, the Heritage Commission of Saudi Arabia registered 1,556 archaeological sites, documented 1,900 stone structures, and recorded 7,600 rock facades with drawings and inscriptions.

Paola Pesaresi, a senior director at the Diriyah Gate Development Authority, praised the commission's efforts, stating that the Kingdom is revealing its history through various national level endeavors, and the Heritage Commission plays a significant role in this process through support, cooperation, and collaboration.

Pesaresi emphasized the importance of preserving heritage as a valuable asset for future generations.

It serves as a connection to the past and present, guiding us towards the future.

With the country growing rapidly, she stressed the need to prevent any loss of heritage, as it belongs to future generations, not just the present.
