The total cash prizes for the AlUla Camel Cup races have reached SAR 80,960,000, following the schedule of the "Sanam Racing" program and concluding the current season's calendar of the Saudi Camel Racing Federation.
The second edition of the championship kicked off on Wednesday at the AlUla Camel Racing Field in the AlUla governorate for the second consecutive year. The opening day featured six rounds as part of the camel racing event for both men and women. The men's races offered total prizes of SAR 48 million over a distance of 25 kilometers (5 kilometers per round), while the women's races awarded SAR 960,000 in total prizes for a distance of 2 kilometers per round.
The championship will continue over the next three days following the opening, hosting ten rounds for the approved camel categories: Haqaik, Laqaya, Jatha'a, Thanaya, with each category round's total prizes amounting to SAR 6.4 million (SAR 51.2 million in total). The "Heel-Zamoul" categories' total prizes reach SAR 24 million (SAR 12 million for each round).
This substantial effort is part of the Saudi Camel Racing Federation's initiative, led by Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, to preserve this significant cultural heritage and elevate the sport to international standards in line with "Vision 2030". Additionally, the federation aims to govern and manage camel races, offering services to race tracks, owners, and providing an ideal environment for them to practice this traditional sport.
