Australian Police Shoot Dead Radicalized Teenager in Perth, Possible Terror Attack
A 16-year-old boy was shot dead by Australian police in Perth, Western Australia, after he stabbed a man on Saturday night.
The attack, which left the victim stable in hospital, had "hallmarks" of terrorism, according to authorities.
The boy, who was armed with a kitchen knife, had reportedly been radicalized online.
Concerned members of the local Muslim community had contacted authorities before the attack.
The attack is currently being investigated, but has not yet been declared a terrorist act.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was briefed on the incident and there is no ongoing threat, according to intelligence agencies.
Australian Prime Minister Albanese condemned violent extremism in the country following charges against several boys for terrorism-related offenses.
The charges came after the stabbing of an Assyrian Christian bishop during a live-streamed sermon in Sydney and a stabbing spree that killed six in Bondi.
Despite these incidents, gun and knife crime is rare in Australia, which is consistently ranked among the safest countries in the world.
