Alat Accelerates Saudi Arabia’s Advanced Manufacturing Ambitions for Vision 2030
Saudi industrial group leads high-tech production partnerships and clean-energy manufacturing to diversify the economy and build local technological capacity.
Alat, a government-backed industrial technology company launched in Riyadh in 2024, is emerging as a central force in Saudi Arabia’s drive to build a globally competitive advanced manufacturing sector under Vision 2030. Established by the Saudi Public Investment Fund and chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Alat is engineered to transform the Kingdom’s economy by localising production of semiconductors, smart devices, AI infrastructure and advanced industrial technologies while fostering sustainability and job creation.
At its core, Alat integrates automation, artificial intelligence and clean energy into its manufacturing ecosystem, attracting multinational partners and positioning Saudi Arabia as a strategic hub for high-value production.
A cornerstone of this strategy is Alat’s partnership with global technology leader Lenovo, which has committed a multi-billion-dollar collaboration to establish a major manufacturing facility in Riyadh — slated to become one of the largest tech production hubs outside Asia and designed to produce millions of ‘Made in Saudi’ laptops, servers and smart devices for regional and international markets.
The Lenovo-Alat venture is projected to contribute up to ten billion dollars to the non-oil economy by 2030, support thousands of direct and indirect jobs, and help double non-oil exports as the Kingdom shifts away from historical reliance on energy revenues.
Alat’s initiatives extend beyond consumer electronics: it has forged strategic ties with SoftBank Group to develop next-generation autonomous industrial robotics and with other international firms to expand smart building, electrification and AI-driven infrastructure manufacturing.
These collaborations reflect efforts to embed cutting-edge technologies into industrial processes and supply chains, aligning factory output with global Industry 4.0 standards.
Alongside capital-intensive projects, Alat emphasises human capital development, working with local institutions and partners to enhance Saudi workforce capabilities in advanced manufacturing, digital skills and automation.
Alat’s activities also align with broader national sustainability goals, leveraging the Kingdom’s abundant clean energy resources to decarbonise industrial operations and support carbon-neutral production models suited to future global markets.
By anchoring high-technology industrial capacity within the Kingdom and fostering an ecosystem where international and domestic talent collaborate, Alat is helping chart a new trajectory for Saudi Arabia’s economic diversification, industrial competitiveness and technological leadership in the Middle East and beyond.
