11th Showreel Effat International Student Film Festival: Celebrating Global Filmmaking Talent and Processes

The 11th Showreel Effat International Student Film Festival took place at Effat University's School of Cinematic Arts in Jeddah, welcoming film enthusiasts and aspiring filmmakers.
The three-day event, which concluded on Thursday, focused on the theme "Behind the Seen," highlighting the creative process and less-visible aspects of filmmaking.

The festival showcased a diverse range of student films from Effat and other universities worldwide.

Mohammed Ghazala, head of the School of Cinema Arts, introduced the festival, emphasizing the significance of the works created by Effat students and graduates, who have been pioneers in film and animation education in Saudi Arabia.

Out of 2,150 submissions from over 115 countries, 57 exceptional films were selected for competition in seven categories, including Best Saudi Feature Film and Best International Animated Film.

Asmaa Ibrahim, the dean of Effat College of Architecture and Design, expressed excitement about welcoming guests to share their cinematic experiences.

A celebration was held at an unnamed festival, attended by students from Dar Alhekma, King Abdulaziz, and Princess Noura universities in Riyadh.

Guests included professionals from prestigious institutions like the Royal College of Art, Netflix, Maflam, Film Association, and VFX Mojo, who conducted workshops.

The interactive discussions were engaging, and attendees, including visual effects professional Karim Sahai from France, expressed appreciation for the high-quality engagement and insightful questions from the audience.

Sahai was impressed by the audience's participation and expressed his intention to return due to the inspiring energy of the event.
