We succeeded in reforming our educational system, Saudi minister says

Minister of Education Dr. Hamad Al-Sheikh lauded the achievements of the Kingdom in its reform of the educational system.
“There have been vast improvements in learning outcomes and the readiness of the education system to meet the needs of the labor market and prepare students for future jobs.”

In his speech on Thursday at the meeting of the G20 Education Ministers, Dr. Al-Sheikh outlined several aspects of the Kingdom’s commitment to education reform.

The reforms included improving school readiness by expanding equitable access to high-quality early childhood education.

The ministry has been constructing new classrooms, partnering with the private sector, engaging all education stakeholders, and hiring and training early childhood teachers.

Through the development of curricula and study plans, the minister emphasized the significance of enhancing the basic skills of students.

In addition, he stressed, the importance of fostering educational alignment with labor market needs by introducing multiple pathways in secondary education that support skill development.

He also mentioned the inclusion of practice-based learning opportunities, remedial learning, and a trimester system that accommodates more school days for extra-curricular activities.

The minister reviewed the Kingdom’s experience in confronting the COVID-19 crisis. To mitigate the pandemic’s effects on education, the Ministry activated modern digital alternatives through platforms, applications, and television channels.

He also detailed how these alternatives supported the continuation of the educational process with efficiency for all students.

One of the most important objectives is to prepare future generations of highly skilled, knowledgeable youth to compete globally, Dr. Al-Sheikh explained.

He also noted the efforts to educate people with disabilities and create an appropriate educational environment for them.

Dr. Al-Sheikh thanked Indonesia for hosting the G20 ministerial meeting and organizing its activities in accordance with globally significant educational priorities.

He complimented the efforts made by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology to lead the discussions and share the outcomes of the Education Working Group.

In concluding his speech, the minister highlighted the significance of education as a major driver of development and a fundamental right. He also stressed the importance of international collaboration to develop modern new global perspectives and policies to ensure a meaningful and sustainable future for all.
