Head of NATO calls for 'robust' guarantees to ensure Russia does not invade again.
The head of NATO, Mark Rutte, has called for robust security guarantees for Ukraine during a visit to Kyiv.
The purpose of these guarantees is to ensure that Russia upholds any potential peace deal and never attempts to invade Ukraine again.
This request comes as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to broker a peace deal and end the conflict, now in its fourth year.The idea of providing security guarantees to Ukraine has been at the forefront of recent US-led negotiations.
During his visit to Kyiv, Rutte stated that these guarantees would be essential for defining the future security landscape.

Donald Trump recently hosted a meeting with European leaders and Zelensky, where he claimed that Russia had agreed to provide some Western security guarantees for Kyiv.
However, Moscow later dismissed any such agreement.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that discussing security guarantees without the country's involvement was 'a utopia' and would lead nowhere.During his visit, Rutte highlighted the importance of these guarantees in ensuring that Russia adheres to any peace deal and does not attempt to invade Ukraine again.
Zelensky also commented on this issue, stating that the guarantees will encompass support from international partners, including military assistance, intelligence, naval presence, and financial aid.Rutte acknowledged that it is too early to determine the exact outcome of these negotiations but emphasized the United States' involvement in the process.
He also referenced past agreements such as the Budapest Memorandum and Minsk Agreement, which he stated should not be repeated.
