FBI Conducts Searches at Home and Office of Ex-Trump National Security Adviser John Bolton

The FBI searched the Maryland home and Washington office of ex-Trump national security adviser John Bolton as part of a criminal investigation into potential mishandling of classified information.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) executed searches at the Maryland residence and the Washington office of former Trump administration national security advisor, John Bolton.

This action is part of an ongoing criminal investigation focusing on the alleged mishandling of classified information.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Bolton was not in custody as of Friday, and he has not been charged with any crimes.

The searches have raised concerns about the potential politicization of law enforcement under the Trump administration.

This development follows a 2022 incident where the FBI searched former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, seizing classified documents.

Current FBI Director Kash Patel previously listed Bolton as one of 'members of the Executive Branch Deep State' in his 2023 book.

Trump stated he was not seeking information about the searches and emphasized that he is the chief law enforcement officer but decided it was better not to know.

The investigation into Bolton's activities intensifies tensions between critics of the president, particularly those who have expressed opposition to his policies or written critically about him.

This includes a separate Justice Department mortgage fraud investigation targeting Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff of California and New York Attorney General Letitia James, who brought a civil lawsuit against Trump for alleged fraudulent business practices.

Bolton, who served as Trump's national security adviser from 2018 to 2019, has been at odds with the former president over several issues including his book "The Room Where It Happened" which described Trump's lack of knowledge on foreign policy and accused him of being conspiracy-minded.

The investigation into the handling of classified information by current and former government officials highlights a politically charged environment surrounding national security and governance.
