US Air Force Successfully Tests Air-Launched Hypersonic Weapon: Global Arms Race Intensifies
On Tuesday, the US Air Force announced the successful execution of a test launch for an air-launched hypersonic weapon in the Pacific Ocean.
The test took place on Sunday, with a B-52 bomber taking off from the island of Guam carrying an Air-launched Rapid Response Weapon (ARRW).
Although the Air Force declared the test a success, they did not reveal the weapon's speed during the test.
Previous tests have shown the ARRW flying at least five times the speed of sound.
The development of hypersonic weapons, which fly at extremely high speeds and can maneuver effectively, is not limited to the US.
Both Russia and China have reportedly tested such weapons.
Russian forces have allegedly used hypersonic missiles against targets in Ukraine, while China has conducted tests on its hypersonic weapons.
However, China's foreign ministry denied any involvement in a weapons test in October of the same year.
The US Air Force's test marks another step forward in the global arms race for hypersonic weapons, which offer significant advantages in terms of speed and evasiveness, making them challenging to track and intercept.
The successful test further underscores the importance of the US military's ongoing efforts to develop and deploy these advanced weapons systems.
