Ukraine's Military Commander Vows to Increase Strikes on Russia
Ukrainian military leader Oleksandr Syrsky states the country will expand its strikes against Russian targets in response to ongoing aggression.
KYIV: Ukraine's top military commander, Oleksandr Syrsky, has announced plans to escalate the 'scale and depth' of strikes against Russia.
This decision comes amidst stalled diplomatic efforts to end the conflict, which has been ongoing for three years.
The last direct meeting between Ukrainian and Russian representatives took place nearly three weeks ago, with no subsequent talks scheduled.
Recent Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory have resulted in the deaths of dozens, including in Kyiv, according to official reports.Syrsky emphasized that Ukraine will not remain solely on the defensive, citing the ineffectiveness of such a strategy and the resulting loss of territory and lives.
He confirmed that retaliatory strikes against Russian military targets, which have proven effective, will continue.
These strikes often target energy infrastructure and military installations, sometimes located hundreds of kilometers from the front lines. The Ukrainian commander also acknowledged that Russia holds advantages in drone warfare, particularly with tethered fiber-optic drones that are resistant to jamming.
Despite this, Syrsky reaffirmed Ukraine's commitment to increasing the scale and depth of its strikes.Additionally, Syrsky mentioned that Ukraine maintains control over 90 square kilometers of territory within Russia's Kursk region, where a significant cross-border incursion was launched last August.
This area is considered a strategic buffer against potential Russian offensives.
However, Russia claims to have regained full control of the region and denies any Ukrainian presence.Russia has occupied approximately one-fifth of Ukraine since launching its invasion in 2022, including the annexation of four regions and Crimea, which was captured in 2014.
Kyiv accuses Moscow of deliberately obstructing peace efforts to prolong the conflict and expand territorial control.
