UK Police Hunt for Two More Wrongly Released Prisoners
British authorities are conducting searches for Brahim Kaddour-Cherif and William Smith, who were mistakenly freed from Wandsworth Prison in London.
The British police are actively searching for two more prisoners who were wrongly released from Wandsworth Prison in southwest London.
These incidents come just days after the government implemented more stringent security checks following a previous case of a mistaken release.
Brahim Kaddour-Cherif, a 24-year-old Algerian national serving time for trespass with intent to steal, was released on October 29, six days before the police were informed.
Kaddour-Cherif is also known by various names and is a registered sex offender due to a conviction for indecent exposure.
The second individual, William Smith, a 35-year-old convicted of multiple fraud offenses, was mistakenly freed on Monday.
Both prisoners have local connections that may aid in their tracking.
These recent releases highlight the challenges facing the Prison Service, which has been under-resourced for years.
The Labour government, having recently returned to power, is now dealing with these issues.
The previous Conservative administration is being blamed by Conservatives for a significant increase in wrongful releases, with 262 such incidents reported in the year ending March 2025, compared to the previous period.
The current situation has prompted Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister David Lammy to express outrage and call for an independent investigation into these blunders.
