The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority has launched a tree-planting initiative in the Jouf region to protect the environment and expand vegetation cover.
RIYADH: The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority recently initiated a project to plant more than 3,000 seedlings at its nursery in the Jouf region.
This effort supports the authority's commitment to environmental protection and sustainability within the Saudi landscape, as outlined by the Saudi Press Agency on Wednesday. The tree-planting campaign engaged volunteers from various educational institutions across Jouf, forming part of a larger initiative known as the National Greening Season.
The authority has been proactive in addressing environmental issues, having previously planted nearly 4 million seedlings and restored approximately 750,000 hectares of degraded land through restoration projects designed to combat desertification and overgrazing.
These initiatives aim to restore natural ecosystems and safeguard the Kingdom's biodiversity.Simultaneously, the National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification has been actively involved in planting efforts across the region, with a focus on cultivating 1 million seedlings dedicated to production in Jouf.
The project encompasses planting native species that are suited to the unique rangeland environments of Saudi Arabia, recognized for their value in grazing benefits, drought resilience, and adaptability to arid conditions.
Additionally, these plants contribute to soil stabilization, desertification prevention, wildlife habitat provision, carbon dioxide absorption, and oxygen production.
