Former President Donald Trump is hosting former Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso at Trump Tower on Tuesday during his criminal trial in New York.
This is the latest in a series of meetings with foreign leaders as US allies prepare for the possibility of Trump winning the White House again.
Trump's spokesperson, Brian Hughes, stated that leaders recognize Trump as making the world safer and more peaceful, and that Biden is weak.
Last week,
Donald Trump met with Polish President Andrzej Duda, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at Trump Tower.
Trump had a close relationship with the late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Abe's vice president and former deputy prime minister, Taro Aso, is currently the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party's vice president and finance minister.
If re-elected, Trump has threatened to impose new tariffs.
On Tuesday, Trump criticized the US dollar reaching a new high against the Japanese yen on his Truth Social platform, calling it a "disaster" for American manufacturers.
The US dollar has increased in value against the Japanese yen, rising from around 130 yen a year ago to above 150 yen currently.
This has made imports more expensive for Japan but has benefited its exports.
In early November, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida visited the White House for talks and a state dinner with President
Joe Biden.
During the visit, the leaders announced plans to strengthen US-Japan military ties in response to concerns about North Korea's nuclear program and China's military activity in the Pacific.
