Saudi Arabia Takes Strides to Combat Plastic Waste, Reduce Per Capita Generation
The average per capita waste generation in Saudi Arabia is 1.7 kilograms per day, according to the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.
The Kingdom produces about 7 million tons of plastic waste annually.
To address these environmental concerns, the ministry participates in World Environment Day, holds awareness forums, and has established several centers and laws to reduce pollution.
Saudi Arabia also leads global efforts to combat plastic waste, such as the Osaka Blue Ocean Vision, and has organized voluntary campaigns and awareness events to reduce dependence on single-use materials.
The world consumes about 475 tons of plastics annually, with only 10% being recycled and 80% being transferred into waste.
