Saudi Arabia's NEOM Subsidiary Partners with Tadco to Boost Food Security with Hydroponic Greenhouses
Saudi Arabia's food security is set to improve with a new partnership between NEOM subsidiary Topian and Tabuk Agricultural Development Co. (Tadco).
They signed a memorandum of understanding to use advanced agricultural technologies, including hydroponics, to boost domestic food production.
The collaboration will result in a hydroponic greenhouse facility in Tabuk, which can grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers using minimal water resources and in half the time of traditional agriculture.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is working towards sustainable food production practices with the help of a new partnership.
Topian, a hydroponic farming expert, and NEOM, a Saudi Arabian subsidiary, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Topian will design, install, and operate a hydroponic greenhouse facility, while NEOM will manage all aspects of the project, from planning to training and customer relations.
Tadco, another company involved, will facilitate the project's success by providing essential resources, such as agricultural land, distribution channels, and infrastructure support.
Saudi Arabia is focusing on enhancing food security and sustainable agricultural practices through increased domestic production and the use of advanced technologies, such as greenhouses.
In January 2021, Al-Jouf Agricultural Development Co. inaugurated the country's largest greenhouse complex, spanning 12 hectares and using hydroponic technology.
The Kingdom is also promoting water-efficient irrigation technologies to optimize water use in agriculture.
In 2019, plans were announced to convert 1.2 million hectares of traditional flood irrigation to more efficient methods by 2030.
The National Water Strategy of Saudi Arabia also focuses on improving water management practices for sustainable agricultural development.
This partnership aligns with Saudi Vision 2030's goal of increasing food security through sustainable agricultural practices.
