Russian Drone Attack Damages Power Facilities in Odesa, Leaving Thousands Without Electricity
Ukrainian authorities report that a recent Russian drone attack has damaged critical infrastructure near the city of Odesa, resulting in widespread power outages and damage to residential areas.
A Russian drone attack overnight targeted four power facilities near the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa, leading to significant disruptions in electricity supply.
According to officials from the region's governor and the power firm DTEK, over 29,000 customers lost access to electricity following the incident on Sunday morning.
The port city of Chornomorsk, situated just outside Odesa, experienced the most severe impact, with residential houses and administrative buildings suffering damage as well.
Governor Oleh Kiper reported that critical infrastructure is currently operating on generators due to the attacks.
Although Reuters could not independently verify these reports, they align with recent trends showing Russia's increasing focus on targeting Ukrainian energy and gas infrastructure.
In response, Ukraine has launched strikes against Russian oil refineries and pipelines.
The lack of comment from Russia further underscores their continuous assaults on Ukraine's vital infrastructure throughout the ongoing conflict, which now spans 42 months following Moscow's full-scale invasion.
DTEK stated that repair work would commence as soon as military and rescue services grant clearance to energy workers.
