Two children were killed and 20 people injured during the incident when gunfire erupted through the stained-glass windows of the Church of Annunciation, where hundreds had gathered for Mass with students from Annunciation Catholic School.The Pope, who is originally from Chicago, spoke passionately about his prayers for an end to what he termed the "pandemic of arms, large and small" plaguing the world.
He appealed for a shift towards a culture of fraternity, emphasizing the need for God's intervention to halt the senseless loss of life caused by weapons.Following the tragedy, Pope Leo initially extended condolences without commenting on political or gun control issues.
