Jazan's Black Mountain Gains Popularity as Saudi Arabia Promotes Ecotourism

Rising to new tourism heights, Jazan’s Black Mountain offers hikers, photographers, and nature lovers a unique natural experience.
Black Mountain, situated in the Al-Raith governorate of Jazan region, has emerged as one of Saudi Arabia's most captivating natural attractions.

Its name is derived from its striking volcanic rock formations that paint it with a dark hue.

Beyond its aesthetically pleasing appearance, Black Mountain holds significant ecological importance and historical ties to local culture. The mountain stands at an impressive height of over 2,000 meters above sea level, making it one of the tallest peaks in Jazan.

Its surroundings feature sloping plains and winding valleys, creating a picturesque landscape that caters to hikers and nature enthusiasts.

The peak is often shrouded in fog during winter and spring, adding an ethereal element to its allure. The mountain's slopes are adorned with native trees and traditional agricultural terraces.

These terraces have been utilized by local farmers for generations to cultivate crops like corn, millet, and coffee.

Several villages lie nearby, where the community remains deeply connected to the land and its history.

Black Mountain holds a special place in folklore as a sanctuary for shepherds and travelers throughout history. The growing trend of ecotourism and outdoor exploration within Saudi Arabia has sparked an increase in interest towards Black Mountain.

Young adventurers, campers, and photographers are drawn to its unique terrain.

To accommodate this influx of visitors, authorities are enhancing the site with walking trails, observation points, and educational signage.

These additions aim to preserve the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Black Mountain while providing a more comprehensive experience for tourists.
