Israel Vows to Retrieve Remains of Officer Killed in 2014 Gaza War
Military chief pledges commitment to bring back Hadar Goldin's remains, following Hamas' reported location of his body.
Jerusalem: Israel’s military chief, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, has pledged to retrieve the remains of Lieutenant Hadar Goldin, an Israeli officer killed during the 2014 Gaza War.
The commitment follows reports that Hamas had pinpointed the location of Goldin's body after conducting a search in an area under Israeli control, with Israel’s permission.
Goldin, aged 23 at the time of his death, was part of an Israeli unit tasked with locating and neutralizing Hamas tunnels when he was killed on August 1, 2014.
The incident occurred just hours after a 72-hour humanitarian ceasefire went into effect.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Goldin's team came under fire from militants, resulting in his death and the seizure of his body.
Israel has listed Goldin among its deceased hostages whose remains it seeks to recover as part of ongoing efforts related to the recent Gaza War.
At the start of the current ceasefire on October 10, Hamas was holding 20 living hostages and 28 bodies of deceased captives.
Since then, Hamas has released all living hostages and returned 23 sets of remains in accordance with the ceasefire terms.
The Israeli military’s commitment to retrieving Goldin's remains is part of a broader deal that includes releasing Palestinian prisoners and returning bodies of Palestinians held by Israel.
While four additional hostage bodies, including three Israelis and one Thai national, remain to be returned from Gaza, these efforts signal ongoing diplomatic negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict.
This report provides factual information on Israel’s commitment to retrieving the remains of Lieutenant Hadar Goldin, without expressing any personal opinions or interpretations.
