On Tuesday, Israel received the body of Staff Sergeant Itay Chen from Hamas via the Red Cross in Gaza.

The Prime Minister's Office confirmed the identity of the body as that of Staff Sergeant Itay Chen after an identification process took place.According to Hamas, they found the body of a hostage in Shejaia, which is an eastern suburb of Gaza City still occupied by Israeli forces.
This discovery was made following Israel granting access to the location for teams from Hamas and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Under the ceasefire agreement that began on October 10th, Hamas handed over all 20 living hostages held in Gaza in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian convicts and wartime detainees being held in Israel.
Additionally, Hamas promised to turn over the remains of deceased hostages but cited the devastation in Gaza as a hindrance to locating bodies.
Israel accuses Hamas of stalling in this process.Including Chen's body, Hamas has now returned 21 out of the 28 bodies of hostages buried in Gaza.
In return, Israel handed over 270 bodies of Palestinians it had killed since the start of the war in October 2023, according to Gaza health authorities.Hamas-led militants were responsible for killing 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages during their cross-border attack on Israel on October 7th, 2023.
In retaliation, Israel's military operation in the Gaza Strip resulted in over 68,000 Palestinian deaths, as reported by health officials in the enclave.Staff Sergeant Itay Chen was serving his role as a soldier when Hamas executed the surprise invasion of southern Israeli towns and military bases on October 7th.The US-brokered ceasefire has generally maintained its hold despite intermittent violence.
According to Palestinian health authorities, Israeli forces have killed 239 people in strikes since the truce took effect, with nearly half occurring in a single day last week following a militant attack on Israeli troops.
Israel claims that three of its soldiers have been killed and it continues targeting numerous militants who approach lines behind which Israeli troops have withdrawn under the terms of the ceasefire.Earlier on Tuesday, Gaza health authorities reported an incident where Israeli fire resulted in the death of a man in Jabalia, located in northern Gaza.
The Israeli military stated they had targeted a 'terrorist' who crossed into areas still occupied by the army and posed an imminent threat.
