Iran and Pakistan Urge UN Action Against Israel for Illegal Attacks on Neighbors, Vow to Boost Trade
Iran and Pakistan urged the UN Security Council to take action against Israel for allegedly targeting their countries and diplomatic facilities, following a three-day visit of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Pakistan.
The call came after reported explosions in Isfahan, Iran, which Tehran downplayed and did not plan to retaliate against.
The joint statement condemned Israel's actions as a major escalation in the Middle East and a violation of international law.
Iran and Pakistan are working to improve their relationship following military conflicts this year.
During a visit to Pakistan, Iran's President Raisi pledged to increase trade between the two countries to $10 billion annually.
Raisi also warned of severe consequences if Israel attacks Iranian territory again, after Iran retaliated with missiles and drones following a suspected Israeli strike on the Iranian embassy in Damascus.
During a recent visit to Pakistan, Iran's President Raisi called for de-escalation by all parties and pledged to increase trade and energy cooperation between the two countries.
A major gas pipeline deal between Iran and Pakistan has been delayed due to geopolitical issues and international sanctions.
