WAGAH BORDER: Dozens of Sikh pilgrims from India crossed into Pakistan on Tuesday, according to AFP journalists present at the scene.
This marks the first significant crossing since deadly clashes in May between nuclear-armed neighbors closed their shared land border.The pilgrims are traveling to participate in festivities marking the 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh faith.
They were greeted by Pakistani officials upon arrival at the Wagah-Attari border, who honored them with flowers and rose petals.Tensions between India and Pakistan have remained elevated following May's hostilities, which included missile, drone, and artillery exchanges, resulting in over 70 casualties.
