IHG and REFAD Agree to Bring New Luxury Hotel Indigo & Residences to Saudi Arabia's Hospitality Landscape

IHG Hotels & Resorts, a UK-based company, has signed a management agreement with REFAD Real Estate Co. to bring the luxury Hotel Indigo & Residences brand to Alkhobar, Saudi Arabia.
The deal, supported by the Kingdom's Tourism Development Fund, includes a 200-key hotel and serviced apartments, with a projected opening in September 2027.

Haitham Mattar, IHG's managing director in India, Middle East, and Africa, expressed excitement about the cultural partnership with REFAD and the authentic experiences the hotel will offer.

A company executive revealed that five Hotel Indigo hotels have been signed in Saudi Arabia, with expansion plans in the Middle East due to the success of an existing Hotel Indigo in Dubai.

Mattar, the executive, stated that this addition fuels growth in Saudi Arabia and reaffirms the company's commitment to exceptional hospitality experiences.

With Saudi Arabia increasing its visitor target from 100 to 150 million by 2030, there is a need for lifestyle hotels offering compelling guest experiences.

The hotel industry in Saudi Arabia plans to invest SR2.5 billion ($667 million) over the next three to five years for renovations and upgrades.

Ahmed Al-Khateeb, Saudi Arabia's minister of tourism, has given a mandate to uplift and elevate the country's hotel product to attract international travelers.

Mattar, the managing director, mentioned a commitment from hotel owners to provide staff, with a focus on Intercontinental brand's 10-11 hotels in Saudi Arabia and 39 new hotels in the pipeline.

New hotels will be built in Makkah Medinah, as well as in secondary markets like Abha and Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia is focusing on developing ten key tourism destinations, which include major cities like Riyadh and Madinah, as well as lesser-known regions such as Asir, Qasim, Al-Jouf, Jazan, Abha, and Baha.

The Ministry of Tourism aims to exploit the natural assets and cultural and historical sites in these areas to attract tourists, not just offering city escapes in Riyadh and Jeddah, but also highlighting the spiritual offerings in Makkah and Madinah.

The Hotel Indigo and Residence offers various dining options for guests, including the Neighborhood Café and Lobby Lounge, and an Executive Lounge for a diverse culinary experience.

Business travelers will have access to facilities such as five meeting rooms and a ballroom spanning 290 sq.

m., all equipped with the latest technology.
