Houthis in Yemen Claim Attack on Three Ships: US, Israeli, American Destroyer
Houthi militants in Yemen claimed responsibility for attacking three vessels, including two American ships and an Israeli one, in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean on Wednesday.
This marks the first such attack in over two weeks.
The Houthis, who are aligned with Iran, have been targeting ships in the Red Sea region since November as part of a campaign of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
The group's military spokesman, Yahya Sarea, announced that they would continue to prevent Israeli and any other ships from reaching the occupied Palestinian ports in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Indian Ocean.
A British maritime security firm, Ambrey, reported an explosion in the water approximately 72 nautical miles east-southeast of Djibouti.
The incident occurred in an area where the Houthis frequently target ships they believe are linked to Israel or the United States.
Houthi attacks have previously disrupted global shipping through the Suez Canal, leading firms to re-route and incur longer, more expensive journeys around southern Africa.
The United States and Britain have launched strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen.
