Greek Frigate Destroys Two Houthi Drones Targeting Commercial Ship in Red Sea
On Thursday, Greek military officials reported that a Greek frigate, named Hydra, intercepted and destroyed two drones launched by Yemen's Houthi militants towards a commercial ship in the Red Sea.
The incident occurred while Hydra was escorting the merchant ship in the Gulf of Aden.
An official from the Greek Defense Ministry confirmed that one drone was destroyed by the frigate, while the second one moved away after the attack.
Greece has contributed a frigate to the European Union's naval mission, named Aspides, which was launched in February to safeguard the crucial maritime trade route from drone and missile attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
The militia has claimed responsibility for targeting commercial ships in retaliation for Israel's military actions in Gaza.
