The platform known as Social Media X, previously Twitter, faced a worldwide service interruption lasting just over an hour on Thursday.
Downdetector.com, a website that monitors service disruptions, reported that over 47,000 US users encountered issues accessing Social Media X and its Pro version.
UK and Asian users also experienced difficulties, greeted with a "Welcome to X!" message when attempting to view posts.
Owned by
Elon Musk, who acquired the company for $44 billion last year, Social Media X has been requested to provide comments on the incident.
The issue, which led to the trending hashtag #TwitterDown, was quickly resolved, and service was restored after roughly an hour.
Post-acquisition, the platform has seen a decline in advertising revenue and has faced allegations of permitting antisemitic content alongside ads. It has recently sued Media Matters for America, which lodged these allegations.
Furthermore, Musk criticized advertisers who withdrew from the platform, accusing them of potentially destroying it.
The platform is also under scrutiny for spreading disinformation, with the European Union expressing concerns over its compliance with regulations aimed at preventing illegal content and disinformation.
