COVID-19 RT in Panama increases to 1.00
The RT or effective reproduction number of COVID-19 in Panama is 1.00, as detailed in the epidemiological report presented this Tuesday, September 29 by the Ministry of Health (Minsa).
During the last weeks the RT has been increasing, however, the director of the Metropolitan Health Region, Israel Cedeño, indicated that the latest increase is due to the conglomerate of cases registered in the public jail of the province of Herrera.
Cedeño explained that the comparative curve of tests performed versus the positivity results is maintained. More tests are done and there are fewer cases of COVID-19, he said.
He added that, with respect to cases and deaths, Panama is in a state of "plateau", that is, the reports of infections and deaths are maintained.
Panama and Darien are the provinces most affected by the pandemic with more than 3,100 cases.
In the region, Panama is one of the countries with the lowest fatality rate with 2.1%.
