Classes Commence in Saudi Schools as Over 6 Million Students Return for New Academic Year
Public schools across 11 regions prepare to welcome students with extensive infrastructure projects and maintenance efforts.
RIYADH — Classes in public schools across 11 regions of Saudi Arabia will begin on Sunday, Aug. 24, as the educational institutions prepare to accommodate over 6 million students for New Academic Year 1447-1448 AH.
Schools in Makkah, Jeddah, Taif, and Madinah will commence classes on Aug. 31.The Ministry of Education has completed all necessary preparations for the new academic year, focusing on creating a safe and stimulating environment that promotes national values, discipline, and diligence.
This aligns with Saudi Vision 2030's goal of fostering a promising and competitive generation.To ensure a successful start to the academic year, the ministry implemented several significant projects.
Notably, it initiated 75 new infrastructure construction projects valued at SR920 million.
Furthermore, comprehensive maintenance was carried out on over 15,000 school buildings and more than 884,000 air conditioning units, totaling over SR2 billion.
The restoration and rehabilitation of over 1,400 educational buildings were also overseen by the ministry, costing approximately SR782 million.
These efforts aim to enhance facility efficiency and improve the quality of the school environment.Education departments across Saudi Arabia have finalized their preparations to receive millions of students.
The Riyadh Region alone will host more than 2.84 million students in 6,873 schools.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Province is prepared for over 700,000 students, Qassim for 320,000, Asir for 525,595, Tabuk for 211,372, and Northern Borders for more than 100,500 students.In Hail, approximately 180,000 students will return to more than 1,300 schools, while Al-Jouf has prepared 937 schools for 168,494 students.
Jazan's 2,556 schools are ready for around 351,535 students, Najran for 183,302 across 980 schools, and Al-Baha for over 80,000 students in more than 760 schools.These extensive preparations demonstrate the Ministry of Education's dedication to ensuring a successful and disciplined start to the new academic year.
The efforts aim to support learning outcomes and prepare a promising generation to contribute to Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030.
