Abha Hosts First in Series of Film Criticism Forums
The event marks the beginning of a series aimed at enhancing the Kingdom's cultural identity through film criticism.
ABHA: The Film Commission recently hosted the Film Criticism Forum in Al-Muftaha village, Abha.
This marks the first in a series of forums organized by the commission this year, culminating in the International Film Criticism Conference set to take place in Riyadh in November.
The forum focused on promoting film criticism as part of broader efforts to strengthen the Kingdom's cultural identity.
According to Mishari Al-Khayat, general supervisor of the International Film Criticism Conference, organizing the event in Abha underscores the city's significant cultural and artistic stature.
Al-Khayat emphasized that a robust national film industry cannot thrive without criticism that scrutinizes the visual narratives and deconstructs their meanings.
The previous edition of the conference drew over 10,000 visitors and featured 42 speakers from 30 countries, solidifying the Kingdom's position as a pivotal platform for global cinematic discussions.
The forums are part of a strategic initiative aimed at fostering dialogue and collaboration within the film industry, contributing to the development of a vibrant cultural landscape in Saudi Arabia.
