A British foreign office minister, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, responded to comments made by right-wing politician Nigel Farage about some British Muslims allegedly "loathing" the UK's values.
Trevelyan acknowledged that a small minority of Muslims in the UK may want to challenge British values, but emphasized that the vast majority are peaceful, community-minded individuals who contribute positively to the country.
She expressed the need to continue engaging with this minority to bring them in line with British values.
The UK values freedom of speech and choice, but these need protection against those who threaten them, according to Bridget Phillipson of the Labour Party.
She criticized
Nigel Farage's "incendiary rhetoric" and called for unity and a positive vision for the country during the election, rather than division.
