Ukrainian Capital Kyiv Hit by Russian Strikes: At Least 12 Dead

Kyiv suffers massive attack as Russia unleashes 629 air attack weapons, including drones and missiles.
The Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, was targeted in a significant assault from Russian forces overnight, resulting in the loss of at least 12 lives, including three children.

According to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, these fatalities are attributed to a combination of drones and missiles launched by Russia.

The Ukrainian Air Force corroborates this account, noting that Russia deployed 598 drones and 31 missiles across Ukraine overnight.

This devastating attack has left many trapped under debris, with dozens more injured.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky communicated through the platform X to address the crisis, emphasizing that these attacks serve as a response to calls for ceasefire and genuine diplomacy.

The European Union mission in Ukraine was also targeted, prompting an emergency response involving over 500 rescuers and 1,000 police officers.

This incident has been met with resilience from the EU, with President of the European Council Antonio Costa stating that the organization will not be intimidated by such acts.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha further condemns Russia's breach of international conventions by targeting diplomats, calling for global condemnation.

The rescue efforts have enlisted various specialists and equipment to expedite operations.

Despite enduring a nine-hour air raid alert, residents took refuge in subway stations, advised to remain in shelters throughout the onslaught.

This attack marks a significant escalation as diplomatic efforts to end the conflict stall.

Russian forces have reportedly captured two villages in Ukraine's southeastern Dnipropetrovsk region, further indicating the intensification of hostilities.

Ukrainian military, outnumbered and outgunned, continues to resist Russian advances across much of eastern Ukraine, facing pressure to cede territory in potential peace negotiations.

President Zelensky asserts that Russia's continued aggression reflects a lack of fear for consequences.

The attack's signature, according to Tkachenko, involves multi-directional assaults on civilian infrastructure and decoy missiles intended to confuse defenses.

Dozens of buildings, including residential complexes, kindergartens, offices, and transport facilities, have been damaged, with several high-rise structures severely impacted.

Fires across the city were battled by emergency services, affecting multiple neighborhoods such as Darnytskyi, Desnianskyi, Dniprovskyi, Holosiivskyi, Obolonskyi, Solomianskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi.

This incident underscores the ongoing turmoil inflicted upon Ukraine.
