Two ICRC Drivers Killed, Three Injured in South Darfur Attack Amid Sudan's Ongoing Conflict and Humanitarian Crisis
Two ICRC drivers were killed and three other staff were injured by gunmen in South Darfur, Sudan, while on their way back from assessing the humanitarian situation in a region affected by armed violence.
The ICRC is mourning the loss of their colleagues and wishes for a quick recovery for the injured.
The incident occurred on Thursday.
A violent conflict between the Sudanese army, led by General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces of his ex-deputy Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo has been raging in Sudan for over a year.
The war has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of people and the displacement of millions more, making it the largest crisis of its kind in the world according to the United Nations.
The conflict has also caused acute food shortages and a humanitarian crisis, putting the northeast African country's population at risk of starvation.
