Saudi Law Established Center for Whistleblower Protection, Offers Security and Legal Aid
The Saudi Attorney General, Sheikh Saud Al-Muajab, has approved the establishment of the Center for the Protection of Whistleblowers, Witnesses, Experts, and Victims.
This center aims to provide legal protection to individuals who may face threats for giving evidence in court cases, in accordance with Article Four of the recently approved Law for the Protection of Whistleblowers, Witnesses, Experts, and Victims.
The law ensures their safety from harm and offers various forms of protection, including security, concealed identity, alternative work, legal guidance, social support, and financial assistance.
The text outlines the responsibilities of a center in protecting individuals entitled to protection from physical harm and ensuring their health, safety, and social adaptation during the assigned protection period.
The law allows protected persons to request protection through specific procedures, and also grants protection to those in imminent danger without their consent.
The law imposes criminal penalties, including up to three years in jail and a fine of up to SR5 million, for any felonies committed against those under protection.
The text discusses a new law that grants judicial authorities the power to protect witnesses, victims, whistleblowers, experts, and their families from threats such as assault, intimidation, and harm.
This law aims to combat crimes by encouraging information sharing and shielding informants, witnesses, experts, and victims from attacks or threats that may hinder the delivery of information.
The law will take effect 120 days after its publication in the Official Umm Al-Qura Gazette on March 1, 2024.
