Saudi Arabia’s SAMI Unveils Major Strategic Transformation and New Defence Vehicles
State-owned defence group outlines restructuring into integrated strategic entity as it introduces domestically developed military platforms
Saudi Arabian Military Industries, the Kingdom’s state-owned defence company, has announced a sweeping strategic transformation aimed at consolidating its operations into a fully integrated national defence group, while simultaneously unveiling a new range of domestically developed military vehicles.
At a high-profile industry presentation, SAMI executives described the overhaul as a decisive step toward building a self-reliant defence ecosystem under Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 programme.
The restructuring is designed to streamline subsidiaries, deepen research and development capacity and expand advanced manufacturing within the Kingdom, positioning SAMI as a central pillar of national defence capability.
Company leaders said the transformation will reorganise SAMI into a strategic group model that integrates land, air, sea and systems capabilities under unified governance and planning.
The move is intended to accelerate technology transfer, localise supply chains and strengthen partnerships with global defence firms while nurturing domestic expertise.
Alongside the restructuring announcement, SAMI unveiled new armoured and tactical vehicle platforms developed with significant local engineering input.
Officials highlighted that the vehicles incorporate advanced protection systems and modular configurations tailored to regional operational environments.
The launches were presented as evidence of tangible progress in domestic design and production capacity.
Saudi authorities have repeatedly emphasised their ambition to localise more than fifty percent of defence spending by the end of the decade.
In recent years, the Kingdom has signed joint ventures and technology agreements with major international manufacturers to support skills development and industrial growth.
SAMI said the latest transformation marks a transition from a holding structure into a fully operational strategic group capable of leading large-scale programmes.
Industry observers note that the defence sector has become a core component of Saudi Arabia’s broader economic diversification strategy, generating skilled employment and supporting industrial expansion beyond the energy sector.
By consolidating operations and showcasing new platforms, SAMI aims to reinforce its credibility both domestically and internationally.
The company indicated that further product announcements and partnership agreements are expected as part of the transformation roadmap, underscoring its ambition to position Saudi Arabia as a competitive and technologically advanced defence manufacturing hub in the region.
