Saudi Arabia and UK Agree to Cooperate on SDGs and Humanitarian Projects: Second Strategic Dialogue Concludes

The Second Strategic Dialogue between Saudi Arabia and the UK on international development and humanitarian assistance concluded on Tuesday.
During the high-level plenary session, Aqeel Al-Ghamdi, from Saudi aid agency KSrelief, discussed recommendations from both sides.

These included establishing a cooperation framework to support the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and continuing discussions at the UN General Assembly.

The countries also agreed to collaborate on projects in Bangladesh, Ukraine, and Sudan, involving expertise, skills, research, and field visits.

A two-day conference was held in Riyadh, chaired by Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, focusing on cooperation between the Saudi Fund for Development and UK authorities.

The Saudi delegation included the Kingdom's ambassador to the UK and the CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development, while the British delegation was led by the deputy foreign secretary and minister of state for development and Africa, with the British ambassador to the Kingdom in attendance.

Roundtable meetings were held on aid effectiveness and community resilience.

A memorandum of cooperation was signed to enhance collaboration between the two organizations.

The text discusses ways to improve international aid and development in fragile and high-risk countries.

The focus is on facilitating the exchange of successful strategies, promoting effective development practices, integrating community resilience, monitoring and evaluating projects, and strengthening partnerships between countries.

It also emphasizes the importance of donor coordination and cooperation to enhance the effectiveness of aid.

Additionally, the text highlights the interconnected nature of humanitarian, development, and peace-building efforts and the need for an interconnected approach to ensure sustainability and resilience.

In the final roundtable discussion, attendees discussed the advancements towards the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, methods to quicken the process, and the obstacles they encounter.

They also reached a consensus on prioritizing Saudi-British collaborations to reach these goals and explored potential opportunities for enhancing their cooperation.
