The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health has made the RSV vaccine available to citizens aged 60 and above.
Dr. Abdullah Asiri, an assistant deputy minister, urged those eligible to get vaccinated through their family doctors using the "Sehhaty" app.
RSV is a significant cause of respiratory infections and increases the risk of cardiac arrests.
It is a leading cause of hospitalization for infants and a major contributor to pneumonia and related deaths among the elderly.
A new RSV
vaccine is being introduced in Saudi Arabia for people aged 65 and older, making it the fifth country to do so after European Union, Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom approved its use.
Plans are also in progress to approve a
vaccine for protecting children in their first six months of life.
The
vaccine is anticipated to lessen the health impact of this persistent virus.
