Rohingya Refugees Mark Eighth Anniversary of Exodus, Demand Safe Return to Myanmar
Refugees in Bangladesh call for repatriation and equal rights as the international community explores solutions.
Tens of thousands of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar living in camps in Bangladesh marked the eighth anniversary of their mass exodus on Monday.
Gathered in Kutupalong, Cox’s Bazar district, they demanded a safe return to Rakhine state with equal rights similar to other ethnic groups in Myanmar.
Protesters carried banners emphasizing the need for repatriation as a solution and commemorating what they called "Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day".
The refugees expressed their desire for rights equivalent to those of Myanmar citizens.
