Israeli police have initiated a criminal investigation into Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, following allegations of her involvement in tampering with a key witness in her husband's corruption trial.

The State Attorney's Office confirmed the investigation, which was launched on December 26, 2024, in response to a report aired by Israeli television Channel 12's 'Uvda' news program.

The investigation was triggered by accusations made by Naama Lazimi, a member of the Knesset for the opposition Democrats party, who revealed the letter from the State Attorney's Office.

According to the broadcast, Sara Netanyahu allegedly attempted to intimidate a crucial witness in the corruption trial of her husband.

Additionally, the program claimed that she organized protests aimed at harassing Israel’s Attorney General and other officials perceived as adversarial to the Prime Minister.

The State Attorney’s Office confirmed that the inquiry is being led by the Israel Police, supported by the Cyber Department of the Attorney's Office.

Benjamin Netanyahu is currently facing charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of public trust in three separate cases.

His trial, which began in May 2020, has faced multiple delays, including requests for postponements related to the conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon.

Netanyahu, the first sitting Israeli Prime Minister to stand trial, has consistently denied all charges, describing the accusations against him as 'ridiculous.'

One of the cases under investigation involves allegations that the Netanyahu couple received over $260,000 worth of luxury gifts—such as cigars, jewelry, and champagne—from billionaire benefactors in exchange for political favors.

The trial is expected to last several more months, with the potential for further delays due to ongoing appeals.
