Riyadh Deputy Emir Inspects Expansion Projects at King Khalid International Airport
Deputy Emir of Riyadh Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman reviews airport development projects and rides a self-driving car to the airport.
Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, Deputy Emir of Riyadh, accompanied by Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Saleh Al-Jasser, embarked on a journey from Roshn Front to King Khalid International Airport in a self-driving vehicle.
This marked a significant moment as it demonstrated the Kingdom's initial rollout of autonomous vehicle services in selected areas of the capital.During the visit, Prince Mohammed inspected the airport operations control center, where Al-Jasser detailed its critical role in managing passenger flows and enhancing traveler experiences through advanced technology and artificial intelligence.The Deputy Governor also toured the ongoing development works at International Terminal 2 and observed the expansion projects at Terminal 1.
He assessed the entire passenger journey experience from departure to arrival and the services provided at these facilities.Upon his arrival, Prince Mohammed was welcomed by Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation; Dr. Ghazi Al-Rawi, Chairman of Riyadh Airports Company; Raed Al-Idrisi, CEO of Matarat Holding; Ayman Abu Abah, CEO of Riyadh Airports Company; and senior officials.Al-Jasser highlighted that the enhancements to Terminals 1 and 2 will increase capacity by accommodating 14 million passengers annually.
When combined with other projects, King Khalid International Airport's total capacity is set to rise to approximately 56 million passengers per year.
These investments in infrastructure are aimed at bolstering Riyadh’s position as a global logistics hub and expanding the economic impact of cargo and logistics operations.
