Panama reaches 1,000 deaths from COVID-19 and 50,373 accumulated cases

The number of confirmed deaths due to the new coronavirus in Panama rose to 1,000 for this Thursday, July 16, with a total of 18 new deaths registered in the last 24 hours.

The authorities of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported that there are a total of 50,373 accumulated cases, of which 1,130 are new infections.

Currently, 25,842 recovered cases are reported, while 23,531 cases remain active, of which 21,665 remain in isolation at home, 622 are in hotels, a total of 1,078 patients are hospitalized in the ward and 166 are in the intensive care unit.

The Minsa adds that a total of 177,843 tests have been carried out to detect COVID-19, with a positivity rate of 32%. 124,504 test results have been negative and 53,339 have been positive.

The director of the Metropolitan Health Region, Israel Cedeño, added that in terms of the number of cases and deaths according to age group, there are 6,114 cases and 12 deaths in children under 20 years of age; from 20 to 39 there are 21, 903 cases and 58 deaths; from 40 to 59 there are 15,880 cases and 211 deaths; 60 to 79 accounted for 5,447 cases and 458 deaths; and in older than 80 they register 1,029 cases and 261 deaths.

The President of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, established as a National Day of Reflection this Friday, July 17, 2020, in order to honor the truncated existence of the children of our Nation who we did not manage to save from the clutches of this ruthless disease (COVID-19).

In addition, it reported earlier that the acquisition of vaccines against COVID-19 is coordinated through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health 'as not to be waiting on a list' when their use has already been authorized.
