Kuwait's Emir and Turkish President Strengthen Ties, Discuss Cooperation and Sign Agreements
Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Tuesday.
They discussed strengthening cooperation and coordination, particularly in trade and investment.
The Emir praised the long-standing relations between the two countries and expressed a desire to build on their historic partnership.
He also thanked Turkey for its support during Kuwait's invasion by Iraq in 1990.
The Kuwaiti emir and Turkish president began negotiations for a free trade agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Turkiye on April 21.
The emir expressed his desire to strengthen cooperation, particularly in defense, through government-to-government contracting.
Several agreements were signed during the visit, including a defense ministry executive protocol, a strategic dialogue memorandum between foreign ministries, and cooperation agreements in free zones and housing and infrastructure.
Letters of intent were also exchanged in these areas.
The Kuwait Investment Authority and Turkey's Presidency Investment Office signed a memorandum to promote cooperation on investments.
During the visit, Turkey's President Erdogan presented Sheikh Meshal of Kuwait with the State Order as a symbol of the strong ties between the two countries.
Additionally, the Kuwaiti emir visited the Ataturk Mausoleum in Ankara.
