King Khalid International Airport Tops Saudi Arabia's List of Busiest International Terminals with 15 Million Passengers Annually
Saudi Arabia's King Khalid International Airport ranks among the top three performing terminals in the country, with over 15 million annual passengers and an 82% compliance rate with aviation standards.
According to the General Authority of Civil Aviation's (GAC) April report, King Fahd International Airport and Abha International Airport also performed well based on 11 key criteria aimed at improving service quality and enhancing the passenger experience.
King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah came in second with the same commitment rate but did not meet the criteria as effectively as King Khalid International Airport.
King Fahd International Airport had the most passengers among international airports with 5 to 15 million annually and a 91% commitment rate.
Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah followed with the same commitment rate.
In the 2 to 5 million passenger category, Abha International Airport led with a 100% commitment rate, surpassing King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Airport in Jazan, which also had a 100% rate but fell short in meeting criteria.
Al-Qaisumah International Airport topped international terminals under 2 million passengers with a perfect 100% commitment rate and excellent waiting times for departure and arrival flights.
Arar Airport ranked first among domestic terminals in Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) for performance in 2023.
The airport boasted a 100 percent commitment rate and had the shortest average waiting times for both departure and arrival flights.
GACA's evaluation considered essential criteria like passenger waiting times, time spent at baggage claim, and passport and customs areas, as well as accessibility for people with disabilities and global best practices.
In a separate report, GACA reported a 7 percent yearly increase in air cargo volume at Saudi Arabian airports, reaching 918,000 tonnes in 2023.
The aviation sector in the Kingdom experienced a significant rebound, with a 26 percent rise in passenger transportation compared to the previous year.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) in Saudi Arabia reported a total of 112 million passengers passing through the country's flight facilities in 2022, marking an 8% increase compared to 2019.
The number of flights in Saudi Arabian airports is projected to reach approximately 815,000 in 2023, representing a 16% increase compared to the previous year.
In 2023, international and domestic journeys handled at Saudi Arabian airports are expected to reach 394,000 and 421,000, respectively.
