Israeli Strikes in Eastern Lebanon Result in Five Dead: Health Ministry
Health ministry confirms fatalities following Israeli strikes targeting Hezbollah positions in eastern Lebanon.
Lebanon's health ministry reported on Monday that Israeli strikes in the country’s east had resulted in at least five deaths, with several others wounded.
These strikes came in response to the Israeli military's assertion that it targeted positions belonging to the Hezbollah militant group.
The Israeli military stated that its operations aimed at disrupting Hezbollah activities and weapon storage facilities in the Bekaa Valley were a violation of the understanding between Israel and Lebanon regarding military activities in the region.
According to reports from Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency, at least seven strikes were conducted across the affected area.
This escalation follows Lebanon's government announcement last week that it would begin implementing plans to disarm Hezbollah, a move that remains contentious as Hezbollah opposes any efforts to disarm them.
The Lebanese government has framed this disarmament initiative as part of its commitment to upholding the ceasefire agreement from November, which ended over a year of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, including two months of open war.
