Israeli Forces Kill Five Palestinians in West Bank Raid, Wound Officer
Israeli forces killed five Palestinians and wounded an officer during an overnight raid in the West Bank village of Deir Al-Ghusun near Tulkarm.
The Palestinian health ministry identified four of the dead, while Israeli forces took some of the bodies.
The Israeli military claimed its forces were attacked and responded with live ammunition and shoulder-fired missiles.
Over the past two years, there have been frequent clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians in the West Bank, with the situation escalating since the Hamas-led attack on Israel in October 2021.
According to Palestinian records, 492 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or Jewish settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since then.
The victims include armed fighters, stone-throwing youths, and uninvolved civilians.
Palestinians aim for an independent state with the West Bank and East Jerusalem as its capital, which Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war.
Discussions for a peace agreement between Israel and Palestinians, backed by the US, have been at a standstill for over a decade.
The ongoing conflict in Gaza, which began in October 2021, has intensified calls for renewed efforts to achieve a two-state solution.
According to health officials in Hamas-ruled Gaza, over 34,000 Palestinians have been killed during Israel's seven-month assault on the strip.
The war was initiated by Hamas militants who attacked Israel, resulting in the deaths of 1,200 people and the abduction of 252 others, with approximately 132 still believed to be held captive in Gaza, according to Israeli records.
