IMF Opens First Office in Middle East, Appoints Abdoul Aziz Wane as Director
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has opened its first office in the Middle East and North Africa region in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The office was launched during a conference on industrial policy for diversification and aims to strengthen capacity building, regional surveillance, and outreach to promote stability, growth, and regional integration.
The new office will also facilitate closer collaboration between the IMF and regional institutions, governments, and other stakeholders.
The IMF expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia's financial contribution towards capacity development in member countries, including fragile states.
Abdoul Aziz Wane, an experienced IMF director with a deep knowledge of the institution and wide connections to policymakers and academics globally, has been appointed as the inaugural director of the IMF's new Riyadh office.
