While rain is rare in the UAE, it occurs during the winter months.
Initial estimates suggested over an inch of rain fell in Dubai, with up to 5 inches expected throughout the day.
Heavy rains caused deaths in Oman, including 10 schoolchildren, while rainfall was reported in Bahrain, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
The National Committee for Emergency Management in Oman reported a total of at least 18 fatalities.
